Webcomics Empty Webcomics

Post by Ivazel Fri Mar 22, 2013 7:42 pm

I'm not quite sure where this would go, so if it's in the wrong place then my apologizes!

Let's talk about webcomics.

I've never been a huge fan of them really, well enough to want to track new ones. Saying that however I have come across a few that I absolutely love, and some I like enough to pass the time when there isn't really much else to do.

A few of the ones I currently follow are:
Sunstone by Shiniez - A Bdsm centered comic that has far more than that to offer.
Blood Stain by Sigeel - So far I'm getting it's about Elly working for a mad scientist. (I make it sound very dull, it's not!)
The Schizophrenic's Storybook by Schizostories - The title pretty much sums this one up.
2GAG by DrunkenNovie - Your average short, sometimes funny comic.
Romantically Apocalyptic by S. Alexius - Actually a graphic novel but who cares? Zee Captain!

There are a few others but either their names escape me or I believe you should already know about them. :b

So let's talk. What're your favourite ones to read, and have you read any of the ones above?

I like Hannah is not a Boy's Name, and I liked 9th Elsewhere when it was a webcomic. C:

If you've never heard of either, I do suggest looking them up. Especially Hannah.

Hanna* sorry. The only thing though is that it hasn't been updated since 2011 and I'm not sure if it will be. It's still pretty good to read. :C Just definitely not finished.

I'm actually way into webcomics. Over the years, I've culled down my feed to ones with either super-impressive art+story, or ones that otherwise deliver consistently.
((Hannah is not a boy's name was good! Forgot about that one :c ))

Lessee, some favorites:
-bad machinery- comedy/mystery/teen comics by the brit who did Scary-Go-Round. It's kind of amazing your can read this guy's stuff for free. The world/characters are solid, and the writing charming; he has a patois by now all his quirky own.
-girls with slingshots- Started out as a slice-of-life hipster comedy, and just got slowly crazier. Features great art and a talking cactus, ghost cats, roller-derby-playing lesbians, and silliness and seriousness in equal measure.
-gunnerkrigg court- This one is hard to describe. The plot is full of mysteries and supernatural beings. The art is great. Trickster deities, astral(?) travel, psychic dreams, school comedy, shape-shifting. The guy shifted to updating full-time last year, so this one updates on the regular.
-multiplex- Equal measure movie reviews/jokes, romantic drama, and workplace comedy. Revolves around the employees of a movie theater.
-octopus pie- Comedy/drama involving a cast of Brooklyn hipsters. (I know, but in a good way, okay?) This comic is vast and goofy and impeccably drawn.
-oglaf- Comedy porn. No really. 18+ obviously.
-questionable content- This comic has been running forever, and come a long way in the art and writing department. If you're willing to skim/play catch up, the last couple years comprise a great slice of life comic.
-saturday morning breakfast cereal- nerd jokes, math jokes, philosophy jokes, a twisted/dark sense of humor. Zach also heads a video production thing called smbc theater, and it's hella good.
-templar arizona- Alternate history town in arizona, full of crazy people and subcultures. The art for this series is far and away the best of any I've seen. It's seriously amazing.
-xkcd- stick figures, smart jokes. You've seen at least one of these around the internet.

Honorable mention to great webcomics that are completed/no longer update:
-anders loves maria- romance/comedy/drama/swedish
-american elf- diary comic/cute parenting stuff
-bobwhite- girls in art school/comedy/drama
-freak angels- post-apocalypse/supernatural
-hark! a vagrant- history jokes, literary jokes
-nobody scores- crazy/witty/god I miss this one

I've never been into webcomics (funny, because I might start one this summer), but I often step on yaois. (don't even ask)
So here, STARFIGHTER is NSFW and consists from time to time of gay things, but oh, well. Hamletmachine's art is a pleasure and there's actually a great storyline that actually wants me to dive more into sci-fi and futuristic stuff. (And I'm ... Not a sci-fi person at all.)

Or there's Fishbones, by Jisuk Cho and Yuki S. which is actually... Really interesting. I don't want to say much about it. .n ."Mafia" seems cool enough.

Points plus for Tangerine for mentionning Hark! a vagrant, and Oglaf. <3

Completely forgot to add Romantically Apocalyptic on here too, even though it's more of graphic novel.

@Meishali: What do you plan to do your own comic on? Rather interesting that you want to do it given what you've just said. Confusing man...

What I mean is I rarely follow several webcomics. I know some people that are crazy about it. I usually buy my comics in a bookstore, you know? What I meant by I'm not really in is the "OHSHIT PAGE N°WHATEVER IS OUT TODAY LET'S CHECK.", but I do come back from time to time to webcomics I checked in order to see more pages/check the latest chapter when it's completed. I know some people really dig webcomics. I'm the same when it comes to TV series. I've always had troubles reading online comics, I don't know, it's probably me. And yet I can read manga scans? XD

I'm probably going to host that small story on smackjeeves and/or ask my brother if he can manage to code me something nice for the layout. (Nonsensical Humor/Fantasy) The story is about a Heega (demon) kicked out of the Underworld because he is a lazy ass and does not hunt enough human souls. As he wanders aimlessly into that plain and dull place the human world is (not to mention his lord is watching him), while feeding on peasants, he's told that the Human Lord living next to the shire is hiding an amazing "jewel" that can grant wishes. Lash, our hero, thinks he can offer Demon Lord the artefact and be forgiven. However, when he finally breaks into the Mansion and gets to reach the "Jewel"... Well, nothing goes according to plan anyways with him. xD It's just the journey of a homesick and lazy demon, and a young girl that knows absolutely nothing about the outside world and used as a magic vessel(?).

I see it more as a big project of several plates I'm going to put online.
Pardon the engrish and the sudden attentionwhoring. :1
